Traces the shift from the open, permission-less early web to surveillance-capitalist, VC-driven platforms and the enshittification cycle (drawing on Zuboff, Doctorow, and Astra Taylor's "automation charade"), then argues that AI's collapsing build costs have opened a brief window to build open, federated, data-sovereign alternatives. Ends as a call to designers: treat this as a design problem and build for collective wellbeing, individual data sovereignty, sustainability, and collaboration over solo vibe-coding.
